Book Description
'Wonderful Read - Farr's Best Book Yet!' H. HOPKINS
It had been a long, hot summer followed by a very wet autumn. The River Hawk, lying to the north of a former little mill town, was in full flood but nobody imagined the catastrophe that lay ahead.
Not the elderly couple who created a beautiful memorial garden that would become a lake.
Not the opera singer who found a friend who would risk all to save her life.
Not the owner of Wax Polish who would battle to rescue her first love.
Not the new parents who would be overwhelmed and torn apart.
And certainly not two drama students whose lives would change forever.
BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'Where The Water Flows' by Romola Farr.
Read and reviewed for Romola Farr, Wildmoor Press and Rachel's Random Resources Tours.
Publication date 2nd January 2023.
This is the first book I have read by this author. It is also the third book in 'Hawksmead' series but can be read as a standalone.
I was originally drawn to this book by its stunning eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Wildmoor Press. I have yet to read a book published by Wildmoor Press that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of 24 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in the fictional town of Hawksmead, USA 🇺🇸.
This book is written in third person perspective and some of the main protagonists include Cadence Clearwater. Joel Redmond, Audrey Cadwallader, Malcolm Cadwallader, Eleanor Houghton, Ted, Heather, Ron Smith, Graham, Lady Christina Cornfield, Lord Abel Cornfield, the adorable but naughty Hector the bull mastiff, Gary, Magdalena Jablonski, Harry Willoughby and Trevor Harper. The benefits of third person perspective with are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
'Where The Water Flows' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Romola discusses Covid, car accidents, fires and floods.
What an absolute stunner from the extremely talented Romola!! Well done Romola on an absolutely beautiful and perfect read!! This is the ideal beach read where you could sit there and turn around and just imagine the town coming to life around you.
The book is extremely well written with beautiful descriptions that completely drew me in. The synopsis and the cover match the storyline perfectly!!
The storyline itself completely swept me away. I absolutely adored the unique storyline and getting to know the lives of so many different people, seeing their relationships and friendships change and see how they react to secrets, disasters, romance and everything else that goes on in this absolutely fantastic read!! The only thing that put me off a bit was the constant mention of covid vaccinations and the assumptions that everyone had them and what happens if they didn't. However, I didn't allow it to spoil the storyline and although it would normally get a 4/5 when I find any fault in a book, because I loved it so much it is definitely worthy of a 5/5. It is filled with love, disasters, drama, romance and everything you could ask for in a stunning must read. It kept me turning the pages late at night. I really enjoyed having the insights into everyone life's and what they got up to in the stunning Hawksmead. Romola's evocative writing skills ensures the readers are absolutely sucked into the stunning storyline with the atmosphere and characters coming to life all around them.. I absolutely fell in love venturing into Hawksmead and Romola portrays life in a small town absolutely perfectly I became so invested in this book that it actually felt like going on a holiday and I absolutely dreaded coming to the end where I had to unpack my suitcase and get back to reality. It was an absolutely compelling and addictive heart lifting read that kept me turning the pages until late at night. I loved discovering the pasts and histories of the characters and the town and I was absolutely swept away in the story line. The town came to life around me and I cannot wait to return in the next book in what promises to be an absolutely stunning series. The ending was absolutely perfect and I cannot wait for the next and previous books! This book would make a beautiful movie! I absolutely adored the fact that there is a very naughty but loyal dog running around making some characters job harder than it already or helping out and saving characters and he definitely adds to this fantastic read!! I am a huge animal lover and run a cat rescue so any book that involve animals, naughty or not are a huge bonus for me!!
An absolutely gorgeous, page turning and addictive start (for me) to what promises to be a stunning series!!
Although this is the third book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.
Do not turn a single page of this book until you have cleared your schedules and when you do get ready to go on a stunning holiday you will not want to leave!!
It is always worrying when starting a new series as you have no idea who the characters are. It is very important for me to bond with not only the lead protagonists but also any characters that may make repeat appearances during the series too.
I became completely invested in the characters, along with the storyline, who were all absolutely fantastic with their own individual personalities and quirks. They all started feeling like friends so quickly having got to meet and know so many of them so well. I felt like I was leaving amazing people and friends and feel quite sad about that but am happy in the knowledge that this book is part of a series which I can't wait to get stuck into more of these gorgeous books. I loved watching how so many characters and personalities from Hawksmead develop and go from strength to strength from the first page to the last. I loved watching relationships change and develop and seeing how close knit many of them are. I enjoyed the fact that the younger generation got along so well with the older generation and many of them seemed more like family than friends We start by meeting Cadence Clearwater who seemed a bit snobby and standoffish but the more I got to know her and her history the more I liked her. The next character we meet is Joel Redmond who falls head over heels with Cadence as soon as he sees her but she doesn't seem to wat to give him the time of the day. These young people become closer throughout the storyline developing a lovely friendship, and and maybe more? Audrey Cadwallader and Malcolm Cadwallader take Joel under their wing after his Godmother Eleanor Houghton becomes unwell with a new strain of Covid. This older couple are so sweet and I loved seeing them and Joel get to know each other while we get to know them all. Ted and Heather run 'The Falcon' where Cadence is staying. Eleanor runs the 'Olde Tea Shoppe' and meets Ron Smith when out for a walk but is he hiding something? Some other main characters include Ted, Heather, Ron Smith, Graham, Lady Christina Cornfield, Lord Abel Cornfield, the adorable but naughty Hector the bull mastiff, Gary, Magdalena Jablonski, Harry Willoughby and Trevor Harper. There are so many more memorable characters and I could go on and on but I best leave it there before this turns into an essay. I just cannot wait to meet them all again and see what they get up to in the next book!!
Congratulations Romola on an absolutely gorgeous success!!! Im definitely looking forward to my next holiday to Hawksmead!!! Welcome to my favourite author club and here is to your next success 🥂 !!!
