'The Undateable Gay' by Mark David Woolard

Book Blurb

Think you’re unlucky in love ? You know nothing of dating misery until you’ve delved into the world of the undatable gay Mark Morgan just can’t catch a break. As he documents his struggles through the dating minefield of the gay world, Mark tries to find the answer to the eternal question: Does Mr Right truly exist? With his best friend and fag hag, Tullene for support and a bottle of Savvy B (or 6), he battles his way through failed date after date. And ponders many a profound question: How much savvy B is too much? Will he ever be able to bottom? Should you wear Ugg boots on a first date? Can you find love in a gay sauna? One man keeps popping up ( pardon the pun) like a proverbial bad penny, but will Mark ever bag Travis. Or should he leave him where he found him- in his late teens on a dance floor in G-A-Y?

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Undateable Gay' by Mark David Woollard .

Read and reviewed for ZooLoos Book Tours, Spellbound Books and Mark David Woollard .

Publication date 3rd June 2022.

This is the first book I have read by this author.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and intriguing sounding and hilarious sounding

synopsis and title. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Spellbound Books. I have yet to read a book published by Spellbound Books that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 40 chapters. The chapters are short in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in London, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 , UK 🇬🇧 . The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.

This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonist is Mark Morgan. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them.

'The Undateable Gay' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Mark discusses/includes strong language and sexual content. Due to these I would recommend reading age of 16 plus.

OMG!!!! I CANNOT REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I LAUGHED SO MUCH!!! What an absolutely page turning, refreshing, laugh a minute read!!!! It is perfectly written to hook the reader in and the title, cover and synopsis is perfect for the storyline.

I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this book which got me hook, line and sinker!! I absolutely devoured it in one reading and was completely absorbed throughout!! I loved that it feels that Mark is talking directly to me over a cup of tea at the kitchen table. I couldn't stop laughing from the first page to the end. I adore the fact that although there are quite sad moments and emotional times that within minutes Mark has you laughing until you are in tears again. This book is a complete breathe of fresh air and is the perfect mix of 'Bridesmaids' and 'The Hangover' and 'Bridget Jones Diaries' but funnier!!!! I genuinely couldn't recommend this book any more!!!! This is the most hilarious book I have read this year, and more and if you are looking for a light hearted read filled with romance, alcohol, love, comedy, sex and so, so much more you are in the right place!! I loved the reminders of what was happening in certain years and the movie and music references!!! Talk about a walk down memory lane ♥

I was devastated when I came to the end of this book and really hope that Mark is writing his next success as I am writing this!!

The characters were all an eclectic mix and each one of them were realistic and strong. I was completely invested in them especially Mark who I thought was an absolute hilarious and who I absolutely LOVED getting to know!!! Mark teaches men everywhere to live life to their fullest. He is wild, free and a hundred laughs a minute but has an emotional side too which was lovely to see. Mark really does embrace life to the fullest and even when he contemplates what he has done with his life he still gives people s+*%!!! Good on you Mark. He really comes to life in this book with his larger than life personality he is definitely someone I would love to meet!!! I had tears streaming down my eyes I was laughing so much with him!!! I also loved "meeting" all his dates who had such different personalities and unique traits along with Tullene who was another absolutely fantastic character with a larger than life personality!!! I also loved how Mark's family reacted to his coming out and can't see why more parents can't be the same way, wouldn't change a thing for me as a parent and think it's a disgrace how some people treat their family because of their sexuality.

If you have never met this gang you my friend are SERIOUSLY missing out!! This is a book you will never forget and will have tears streaming down your face in laughter!!

A MASSIVE WELL DONE to Mark on a HUGE success!!! I loved every page of your book and I cannot wait to read more of your past and hopefully future books. Congratulations you are now my favorite male romcom author!! Here's to your next success 🥂

Overall a laugh a minute, addictive genuine page turner that will have you crying with laughter.

Some of my favourite quotes in this book include the following:

😂 Too many to name, I'd be writing the whole book!!!

Genres covered in this book include Humour, Gay Fiction, General Humourous Fiction, LGBTQIA and Gay Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of

194 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

Mark has been writing since the tender age of 8, ever since his father bought him a typewriter home from a neighbour’s skip. He graduated from Brunel university in 2009 with a 2:1 BA in Creative Writing where he discovered his talent for writing comedy and melodrama. When he’s not writing, he can generally be found with a glass of New Zealand Savvy B in his hand. And to be honest, he can even be found with one in his hand if he is writing!! He says some of his best work has been written whilst under the influence. He is a swimming fanatic and does 70 lengths daily. And he swears blind that his enthusiasm for the sport has absolutely nothing to do with the men in tight speedos. He is also a keen Walker. He’s often out in the Surrey Hills on a Sunday, partaking in a ten mile walk. Well, he says he’s got to keep his bottom nice and tight because you never know whose looking!
