Book: THE GIRL'S LAST CRY

Author: ALISON BELSHAM

Pub Day: JULY 11th 2023

Book Description

The girl lies on the dark ground, one arm flung out as if she is still looking for someone to help her. But her wide eyes are staring upwards, and Lexi knows that it is too late…

Detective Lexi Bennett is walking through the quiet Canterbury streets when she hears screaming. Rushing towards the sound, she finds the body of a teenage girl lying beneath one of the city’s ancient towers. Lexi looks up at the cold grey stone, and vows that she will find answers. Did the girl jump or fall… or was she pushed?

Olivia’s distraught parents say their daughter was a talented musician with everything to live for. Lexi’s nephew, Sam, who knew Olivia, tearfully insists that she would never have taken her own life. But when a note is found, Lexi reluctantly wraps up the case.

Then another teenager is found dead on a deserted path beneath a cliff. Lexi is certain there’s a link, especially when she learns that the boy was a musician too. His note uses the same phrases as Olivia’s, and when a second person’s footprints are found at the scene, Lexi realises she is on the track of a master manipulator… and ruthless killer.

With her boss still unconvinced that the deaths are murders, Lexi races to find proof to back up her hunch, and to understand what lies behind these evil attacks on vulnerable children.

And then she gets a call that fills her with dread. Her nephew Sam is missing.

Can Lexi outsmart a truly brutal monster, or will her own family pay the price?

A totally gripping crime thriller that will have you reading late into the night. Fans of Karin Slaughter, Rachel McLean and J M Dalgliesh will love The Girl’s Last Cry.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Girl's Last Cry' by Alison Belsham.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Alison Belsham, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 11th July 2023.

This is the second book I have read by this author. It is also the second book in the 'Detective Lexi Bennett' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'The Girls On Chalk Hill' which I would also highly recommend. It is also the first book in Alison's 'Detective Lexi Bennett'' series.

Wow!!! What a fast paced, shocking and page turning heart racer!!!

This book is extremely well written with extremely vivid descriptions that leaves you feeling the heat and leaves you with sweat dripping down your face. The cover, title and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly.

I absolutely loved this addition to the fantastic Detective Lexy Bennett series!! I was addicted and gripped by the first book in this series 'The Girl's On Chalk Hill' and didn't think there was any way that Alison could beat that but she managed it big time and this book was even better which wasn't an easy feat at all!!! The storyline is action packed and very fast pace. I just couldn't put this gritty and suspense packed page turner down and each and every time I promised myself one more chapter each one ended so I just had to know what happened next. Well it would have been just rude to have put it down so I read one more, then another until I had completely devoured it in one sitting!!!! It is thought provoking and gritty and Alison manages to weave the serious topic of mental health perfectly into an addictive and explosive storyline while spreading awareness of mental health along with other important topics. It is scarily realistic, especially in regards to the amount of power that online influence has over people, especially those that are already vulnerable. The storyline is multilayered with several plots going on and each one just as addictive and explosive as the next. Alison weaved them all together perfectly and has an ending I would have never seen coming!!! It is getting alot harder to surprise me but Alison managed it in both books in this epic series!!!!! The storyline is filled with tension, heartbreak, fear, crime, suspense, twists, murder and everything that will keep your heart pounding. There was a wide range of strong, realistic and unique characters. I absolutely loved Lexi and became completely invested in her the moment I met her in 'The Girls On Chalk Hill' and I absolutely loved seeing her again and watching her character develop even more. She is a strong protagonist, hard working and determine. She is very quickly becoming one of my favourite characters!! I love in when there are strong female leads in books being female myself I always seem to connect more to female leads and Lexi is certainly no exception!! I really cannot wait to see her continuing to go from strength to strength and learn more about her in the next book in this promising series!!! I cannot wait to sink my teeth into the next book in this series which is called 'The Innocent Angels'.

Another HUGE success by this amazing author!!! Clear your schedules as you will not be able to put this fantastic page turner down!!!

Although this is the second book in the series I had would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

Yet another absolutely fantastic read from Alison!!! Congratulations on yet another huge success and here's to your next one 🥂 This is exactly why you are one of my favourite authors!!!

Overall another heart racing, fast paced, non stop action packed psychological thriller in an absolutely explosive series.
