'The Girl On Wildfire Ridge' by Leslie Wolfe

Author: Leslie Wolfe

Book: The Girl on Wildfire Ridge

Publication Day:  August 3rd 2022

Description:

Her face, beautiful even in death, gazed open-eyed at the azure sky. Her brown, silky hair fanned around her head, bringing out the pallor of her skin. Her lips were slightly parted as if she was still breathing, as if she was whispering her goodbyes.

On a hot summer’s day, the sleepy town of Mount Chester is thrown into turmoil when seventeen-year-old local girl Jenna goes missing. Within hours, the case takes an agonizing turn when her body is discovered in the isolated mountains.

Detective Kay Sharp rushes to the scene, hiking for miles to the base of Wildfire Ridge. From the markings on Jenna’s body, it’s clear that she was brutally murdered. Near the victim, Kay finds a butterfly-shaped hair clip with a set of fingerprints that could be a vital clue.

In the hunt for the truth, Kay turns the small town upside down. She learns that Jenna changed dramatically over the past months, no longer the popular girl who always wore a smile on her face. Kay is certain whatever happened to Jenna recently must be the key to her death.

When forensics from the butterfly hair clip comes back, the fingerprints don’t match Jenna’s. Then Kay makes a breakthrough that turns her blood to ice. Jenna was in contact with someone linked to Kay’s own past—and the secret she has spent the last sixteen years burying. If the truth comes out, it could destroy her.

With the clock ticking, and every minute critical, Kay is up against the toughest case of her career. Can she risk everything to confront the past she has been running from, and save another innocent girl before it’s too late?

Thrillers don’t get more addictive than this! You’ll race through this gripping page-turner, your heart pounding, as you’re hit with twist after twist. Perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, Karin Slaughter and Rachel Caine.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Girl On Wildfire Ridge' by Leslie Wolfe.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Leslie Wolfe, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous.

Publication date 3rd August 2022.

This is the third book I have read by this author. This is the fourth book in the 'Detective Kay Sharp' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Beneath Blackwater River' which is the second book in the series and 'The Angel Creek Girls' which is the third book in the series which I also highly recommend. I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'Perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, Karin Slaughter and Rachel Caine.' I am a huge fan of Lisa and Karin so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Leslie Wolfe and if this is half as good as 'Beneath Blackwater River' and 'The Angel Creek Girls' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture  that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 52 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Mount Chester, Canada 🇨🇦.

This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Detective Kay Sharp and Detective Elliot Young. The benefits of third person perspective especially with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

'The Girl On Wildfire Ridge' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Leslie discusses/includes bullying and sexual assault.

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

Wow!!! Another absolutely page turning psychological thriller!!!!

Extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene and absorbs the reader into the storyline making them feel everything that is going on. The cover, synopsis and title suit the storyline perfectly.

Although this book is the third book in the series it can be easily read as a standalone which is what I did. I will however be reading the first book which is called 'The Girl From Silent Lake' as I loved this one, the second one 'Beneath Blackwater River' and the third one 'The Angel Creek Girls' . This book wasn't just one storyline but several cases going on together. It was very well written so that it didn't confuse readers even though there was so much going on. It kept be completely on the edge of my seat biting my nails waiting for the next twist, of which there was many. The storyline is realistic, compelling and addictive. I was completely shocked not just once but several times and would not have guessed any of it so a huge well done to Leslie as it is getting harder and harder to surprise me and there's nothing worse than working everything out before 50%. The story ended perfectly and there were no strings left hanging, everything was explained and wrapped up nicely. Another pet hate of mine is when something is mentioned in a book and then it seems to have been forgotten about. There are some heartbreaking scenes and most definitely lessons to be learned in this fantastic addition to an addictive series. This is one series I would absolutely love to see on the screen!!

The fact that Leslie had done her research on police procedurals shined through and I was intrigued to learn about the statute of limitations. Another well done on doing research as again it really puts me off a book when the author hasn't done any research and so many simple mistakes are made.

I love that there is a strong female lead and the fact that Kay is not only a Detective but a forensic psychologist also is fansicnating. It gives the reader the best of both worlds with her. I loved that Kay is a strong kick butt woman but also empathetic and caring and I enjoyed watching her relationships with Jacob, Elliot, Doc Whitmore and others throughout these books. I love how we delve deeper into her and Jacob's past in this book, discover their father and the secret they have been hiding. I am also looking forward to see where things go with herself and Elliot. She is very intellectual and has a great personality. I love the fact that we get to read her thought processes while she was asking herself questions and going through theories. I really enjoyed Elliot's character also and found him to be caring while professional, friendly and fun. I also found some of his sayings hilarious. I also loved Doc Whitmore who is the pathologist who has such a compassionate and caring personality. There is excellent dynamic in the team and its interesting to find out more about each of the characters. I really cannot wait to meet them all again in what promises to be a page turning explosive series.

Leslie Wolfe congratulations on yet another nail biting page turner!! This is exactly why you are on  my favourite author list. I would love to see this turned into a movie and I eagerly await the next book and to meet the gang again!

Overall an absolutely addictive, compelling page turner that will shock you over and over again!!

Genres covered in this novel include Psychological Thriller, Suspense Action Fiction, Mystery, Police Procedural, Contemporary American Fiction, Psychological Literary Fiction, Suspense and Thriller amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Lisa Regan, Carol Wyer, Robert Dugoni, Angela Marsons, Kendra Elliot and anyone looking for a book that will shock you.

351 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon or free on kindle unlimited which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!
