'The Drowned Woman' by C. J Lyons

Title: THE DROWNED WOMAN

Author: CJ Lyons

PUBLICATION DAY: Nov 10th 2020

Description:

Her eyes fluttered open as the first splash of frigid water crashed through the open window beside her. She shook her head, startled to be awake—to be alive. She was in her car, in the river. She blinked, tried to focus. And then it came back to her. He’d tried to kill her…

One month since she lost her husband, Dr Leah Wright knows it’s time to return to her family home. Though the crime scene tape and blood stains are gone, she will never feel safe with her daughter there again. Receiving a call from Detective Luka Jericho to assist with a police investigation is a welcome distraction, until she sees the scene: a wife dead, another family ripped apart.

As Leah is the new head of the Crisis Intervention Center, Luka knows she can help him speak to the victim’s traumatized husband, who he suspects might have had something to do with his wife’s death. But when Leah interviews the woman who lives across the hall, they uncover evidence of a serial killer in their rural Pennsylvania town. The same person who claims responsibility for drowning Luka’s fiancée seventeen years ago…

With danger closer to home than ever before, Leah realises that to find the killer they may need to dig into Luka’s past. But the killer is already taunting Luka, promising to kill again. Is it already too late to save another innocent life?

Brilliantly suspenseful until the very last page, The Drowned Woman is perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter, Kendra Elliot and Tess Gerritsen. An addictive new thriller in the Jericho and Wright crime series from New York Times bestselling author CJ Lyons.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Drowned Woman' by C. J Lyons.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 10th November 2020

This is the first book that I have read by this author. It is the second book in the 'Jericho and Wright series' but can be read as a standalone.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and intriguing synopsis. The synopsis also stated that it is perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter, Kendra Elliott and Tess Gerritsen. I am a massive fan of all of these authors so it will be intriguing to see if the book lives up to that statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 50 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Pennsylvania, USA 🇺🇸 .

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Detective Luka Jericho and Dr Leah Wright. The benefits of third person perspectives with several protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

This book is very well written with vivid descriptions that suck you into the storyline whilst easily picturing your surroundings. The cover and blurb worked well with the storyline.

The storyline was fast paced and filled with action, mystery, drama, crime and deceit. There was lots of twists and turns and red herrings but unfortunately I found that I had worked the killer out quite quickly which is a shame. However, I still enjoyed reading the book until the end and getting the reasonings behind it all. It may be that I've just read way too many crime novels now so it's getting harder to surprise me as it wasn't obvious just more a feeling.

I loved the diverse range of characters and enjoyed getting to know them all except one. I could not stand Ms Driscoll but sadly a true representative of many teachers and bosses out there!! I am looking forward to reading more about Luka and Leah as they really worked well together and reminded me a bit of Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Isle's who I loved!! It will be interesting to see what they get up to next.

Overall a fast paced crime thriller filled with suspense as well as medical fiction.

Genres covered in this novel include Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Psychological Thriller, Hardboiled, Police Procedural, Crime Fiction, Medical Thriller and Medical Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Karin Slaughter, Tess Gerritsen and Kendra Elliott.

326 pages.

This book is £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 4 /5 (I enjoyed it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.
