The Christmas Love Letters by Sue Moorcroft. Review.

Book Description

A secret romance was just the start of the story…

Tucked into a crook of the Norfolk coast lies Nelson’s Bar – an idyllic village where time seems to

stand still. Maddy Cracey has called this beautiful spot home all her life, as had her husband Adey –

until an epic row sent him storming out into a blizzard, with no sign of him since that fateful night.

Six years on, and Maddy’s life in the village has settled into a gentle pattern with her young daughter

and Great Aunt Ruthie. However, when handsome stranger Raff turns up with a handful of long-

forgotten love letters, their quiet life is upended as family secrets from the past are unearthed.

As Raff and Maddy get to know each other, they grow closer and a love story of their own seems

inevitable. But when Maddy receives a mysterious message, she can’t help but wonder whether her

own past is as distant as she'd thought it was…

The festive new novel about love, family and the power of words from Sunday Times bestseller Sue

Moorcroft, perfect for fans of Sarah Morgan and Phillipa Ashley.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Christmas Love Letters' by Sue Moorcroft.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Sue Moorcroft, Avon and Rachel's Random Resources Tours.

Publication date 26th October 2023.

This is the first book I have read by this author.

This novel consists of a prologue, 26 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This is a beautifully written book that has vivid descriptions which will make you feel that you are breaking your heart and then feeling it repair again, breathing the Norfolk air, feeling the festivities, and falling in love!! It takes you on a journey to Norfolk and I was devastated when I had to pack my case to come back home and leave Norfolk behind 😭 The title, synopsis and cover suit the storyline perfectly.

The storyline itself is romantically charged and filled with love, history, Christmas, family, comedy, deceipt, romance, emotional angst, heartache and absolutely everything you could want in a beautiful novel!! It made me smile, cry, scream, shout, angry and jump for joy!! Throughout the pages of this lovely book there are tears, happiness, disasters, laughter, secrets, romance, friendship, war, humour, heartbreak and so much more !! Sue's evocative writing skills brings the story life and one minute tour chilling at home with the book in your hand and the next you've been sucked straight into Norfolk and flitting back from the present to the past through the medium of letter. The atmosphere and area was gorgeous and I was completely swept away!! This book flooded me with emotions and there were many times where I had to reach for the tissues so make sure you have them at the ready!!! I will admit that there were moments that felt a little more drawn out that necessary but I still enjoyed delving into this warming story and managed to devour it in one sitting. The storyline is unique and I think it is such a fantastic plot I really would love to see this turned into a movie!! I have never visited Norfolk but Sue's beautiful descriptions definitely make me want to!!! A beautiful book and I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author!!!

There were so many large and unique personalities in this book and thanks to Sue's amazing writing skills each and every one of them came alive. My heart went out to Ruthie, especially as a mother myself I couldn't even begin to understand how heartbreaking the decisions she made must have been. I fell in love with both Maddy and Ruthie who were both absolutely adorable and both such likeable relatable characters. Their close relationship with each other is amazing to watch and their bond shines through the pages. Sue portrays their close relationship perfectly and you can see how much they care for each other. They were both such intriguing characters along with Raff who, along with the letters and the other characters brought such differences to Maddy's little family of herself, her daughter Layla and her Great Aunt Ruthie. They were all great together and I loved seeing their interactions and watching their characters, personalities and relationships grow and develop through the pages. Sue has created such amazing characters that I became immediately invested in and was sad to say goodbye to. I absolutely LOVED watching all the separate relationships, past and present, develop and change between the characters and I would love to see where each goes and what they get up to next!! This book was filled with a lovely range of characters so a huge WELL done to Sue for bringing them to life!!

Overall an absolutely gorgeous, festive, feel good, page turning novel filled with friendships, love and family that will keep you up late at night.
