BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Caretaker' by Emily Shiner.

Read and reviewed for ZooLoos Book Tours, Emily Shiner and Inkubator Books.

Publication date 20th April 2022.

This is the first book I have read by this author.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching gorgeous cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Inkubator Books. I have yet to read a book published by Inkubator Books that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 45 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Surrey, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 , UK 🇬🇧 . The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.

This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonists are Paul, Tim and Amy. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

Love, love, loved this book!!!! Absolutely gripping edge of your seat page turner!!!

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene and put you in the storyline. The cover and synopsis suit the book perfectly.

The storyline was captivating and addictive from the first page until the last and I was completely invested in it. It was absolutely rammed full of lies, deceit, tension, twists, suspense and everything you could ask for in a page turning psychological thriller. I just could not put this book down and finished it in one sitting. The atmosphere was perfect for the storyline with a gothic, creepy vibe that makes the hair on your arms stand on edge. It was extremely fast paced with something constantly happening to keep you addicted. Every time I kept telling myself one more chapter the one I was in ended at a point where there was no way I could stop reading so I absolutely devoured it in one sitting!!

Do not start this book until you have cleared your schedules as you will not be able to put it down!!

The characters were all realistic and strong and I was completely invested in them throughout. I love the fact that we got to see what was happening from Paul's point of view and to know why he was doing what he was doing. It is very rare that you see a storyline from the "bad guys" point of view so this was a unique experience. I really enjoy it when you do as it helps the reader understand them more making them more realistic to the reader. I had mixed feelings towards Paul. There were times where I had a lot of sympathy for him and actually hoped things would work out and then others where I thought he needed some serious psychological help. I did feel sorry for Amy and felt she was the only innocent one in it all and deserved better. I thought Tim was very immature and really did not click with him. I found him to be quite aggressive at times and like a spoiled brat who expected Amy to stay in the house moping while he was gone and wasn't happy when she didn't. I won't say anymore as I don't want to spoil it for future readers. Regardless of what I thought about who, each character worked perfectly to make this page turning psychological thriller!!!

Congratulations Emily on a huge success and I would like to welcome you to my favourite author list 🥂 I am off to add all your past books to my wish list and I'm looking forward to your future ones too 😊
