Book Blurb
The App... Once you're in, they'll never let you leave.
Whatever happens, don't download The App. * It will come in the form of a link. Maybe in your DM's on a social media account, the junk folder of your emails or a WhatsApp message from a friend. * You'll be enticed by the chance of winning one hundred thousand pounds on offer every Friday, wired straight into the winner's bank account. * It's not a joke. * This part is genuine. * Someone can and will win the money. * But at what cost? Marty Benson gets the link sent to him by a friend. So what is the harm in looking? He clicks it, downloads the app and enters a few basic details. A message prompts him to wait while he's loaded onto the system. An hour later, another message. • Do not delete the app.
• Do not tell anyone outside of your family about the app.
• Send the link to one person who is close to you.
* Do not throw your phone away.
* Always narrate while streaming.
• If you break any of the rules, we’ll kill a member of your family. Then we’ll kill you. Marty is sent a picture of his wife, who is shopping with her mother in Oxford Street.
As Marty struggles to breathe, he clicks the links and watches the most recent streams, realising what happens within the app. Every Friday morning, a person is randomly picked from social media. They now have a bounty on their head—a death warrant. But they don't know it. Their profile appears on the app's main page; all their details are displayed. Every app member must play the game at least once a month or face the consequences. Kill the person randomly selected from social media. Win one hundred thousand pounds. As Marty watches the terror unfold and everyone streaming the hunt within the app, he realises he has to do something. But how do you stop a murder, when everyone could be the killer?
BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'The App' by Stuart James.
Read and reviewed for ZooLoos Book Tours and Stuart James.
Publication date 28th October 2022.
This is the first book I have read by this author.
I was originally drawn to this book by its absolutely fantastic, eye-catching and unique cover and its intriguing synopsis. I'm also a major horror fan and have heard some fantastic things about this book!!
This novel consists of 50 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in England 🏴 , UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.
This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonist being Jonathan Rushmore, Cass Carter, Ed Carter and Marty Benson. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene and kept me on the edge of my seat. The cover and synopsis suited the storyline perfectly.
OMG!!! ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS ACTION PACKED UNIQUE PAGE TURNER!!!!
It may be the first book I have read by Stuart but I can promise you it won't be the last!!! As soon as I've written this up I'm off to add all his books to my wishlist. I was absolutely addicted to this book from the attention grabbing first page to the completely shocking last!! My mouth just dropped open and the last few sentences, I jist could not believe what I was reading!!! What a cliffhanger which I am really hoping to mean there will be a second book coming and hopefully soon!!!! I just absolutely loved the plot which is one I've never come across before. Such a unique storyline which is a an absolute pleasure to see!!! How many times are you on your phone and get a link pop through from a friend you know doesn't send rubbish? Well after reading this you'll think twice open about opening any messages at all!!! I absolutely loved how Stuart ensured we seen what was going on from not only do many protagonists points of view but also what happened in the past so readers can see why the App was made. I can't remember the last time I read such an explosive, pulse racing, action packed page turner. I think what made this book even scarier is how believable the storyline is. How many people wouldn't kill a stranger to save their child/parent/husband/wife?? With today's society and all the hundreds of apps out there make sure you download the right ones!!
The storyline is absolutely ram packed with mystery, deceit, secrets, lies, murder, horror, tension, suspense and OMG the twists just kept on coming again and again!!! Just when I thought everything that could happen had happened BOOM there was another shocker around the corner. Every time I kept telling myself one more chapter the one I was in ended at a point where there was no way I could stop reading so I absolutely devoured it in one sitting!! I love the fact that although this is a crime thriller there is some light hearted moments throughout so it's not all darkness. I WAS absolutely blown away and considering I read approximately 30 books a month that is certainly no easy feat so a HUGE congratulations on that Stuart.
DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT READING THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE CLEARED YOUR SCHEDULES AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN!!!
It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.
I wasn't just 100% invested in the storyline but also in the characters. Every single one of the characters were well defined, realistic and strong. I absolutely LOVED Ethel who is absolutely kick a## and I'd love to meet her again along with many of the other characters if there will be a sequel. Hint hint Stuart 😉. The relationship between her and Mary had me on stitches and laughing out loud so many times with their snipey comments at each other!! Make sure you don't make the same mistake I did and read this is in a public place as I ended up bursting out in laughter several times and getting a few shocking looks!! I thought Abbey and Beth were also amazing characters and both were very strong, selfless and caring people considering everything they were going through themselves. These characters all worked perfectly with the storyline along with many of the others!!
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Stuart on what promises to be a massive best seller!!! I WAS absolutely shocked by so many events!!! I can't say anything else but when you've read it you'll know!!! Welcome to my favourite author list Stuart and here's to your next explosive success 🥂!!!
Overall an absolutely addictive, psychological, mind blowing page turner that will keep you up with a racing heart until you've finished!!!

Author Bio
I have always loved scary stories, especially ones that shocked me, left me terrified, looking under my bed or in the wardrobe before going to sleep.
There was just a fantastic buzz whenever I watched or read something that took my breathe away.
I remember going to my nan’s house in Ireland as a youngster with my mother and sister, on the West Coast, staying in a cottage, surrounded by miles of fields and my family sitting around the table in the kitchen at night telling ghost stories. Going out and exploring derelict farmhouses in the middle of nowhere. I remember clearly the field at the end of the road was supposed to be haunted by headless nuns. My cousins often remind me of the great times we had, frightening each other and running for our lives whenever we’d see something that didn’t look right.
This is why I love nothing more than to tell a story.
I’m so grateful when people not only read my thrillers but also take the time to get in touch and leave a review. To me, that is the greatest feeling, hearing from people that have enjoyed my work. I know then that I’m doing something right.
I’m 49, married and have two beautiful children. Currently, I’m a full-time plumber but would love nothing more than to make a living from my writing. I hope I write stories and people continue to enjoy them for years to come. That would be completely amazing and a dream come true.
