Spin The Bottle by Isabella May. Review

Book Description

CELESTE thought she had long forgotten the sweet, citrusy kiss she shared with TRAVIS during a

game of spin the bottle. Splitting her time between her accounts office in super Instagrammable

Notting Hill, and her tiny apartment in quirky Exmouth Market, modern-day life is simply too busy for

men. Besides, whenever she tries to find The One, it always ends in disaster. From Tinder tragedies to

trampolining tribulations, Celeste is starting to think that she's cursed.

But then Travis begins to pop up wherever she goes, and Celeste knows with stomach-sinking clarity

that fate has finally caught up with them. Inspired by the idea of fake dating, Celeste is convinced the

only way out of this mess is to call the curse's bluff. But will Travis agree to it? And how can she

manage not to fall in love?

Pour yourself a lemonade and escape with this gorgeous will-they-won't-they rom-com set

between London and Gibraltar!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Spin The Bottle' by Isabella May.

Read and reviewed for Isabella May and Rachel's Random Resources Tours.

Publication date 15th May 2023.

This is the first book I have read by this author.

This book is set in London, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, UK and Gibraltar. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.

This novel consists of a prologue, 18 chapters and an epilogue.

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonist is Celeste. The benefits of third person are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

This book is very well written with vivid descriptions setting the picture perfectly in the readers mind. The title, description and cover works perfectly with the storyline. It is one of those books that are very easy to read and perfect for any reading situations whether you are laying on a beach or curled up in front of a fire. Celeste played a game of spin the bottle many years ago when in Gibraltar and a friend's Gran decided that when her time came it was a good idea to sweeten up the kiss with a few words. Celeste's first kiss was on this occasion and was with Travis. Celeste thought she had forgotten about Travis until she takes part in a reality TV show and all of a sudden she is seeing him everywhere. Is she seeing things or is Travis really in London rather than living it up in Spain like Celeste believes? You'll just have to grab your copy to find out!! This book is a delicious read filled with food, friendship, cake, romance, lemonade, humour and everything you could want in a romcom. I was intrigued in Celeste's upbringing in a military family and being a 'brat' as well as enjoying discovering many places in Gibraltar and London. Isabella's evocative writing skills leaves the reader feeling the lemonade bubbles popping in their mouths, tasting the yummy cakes and devouring the pages in this sweet romance that leaves you with a taste for more. This is definitely one of those books that will turn a frown upside down and make life seem a lot brighter. It is packed with fun, family, romance, heartbreak, friendship, laughter, sympathy, memories and everything you could ask for in a fantastic feel good book.

It is always worrying when starting a new series as you have no idea who the characters are. It is very important for me to bond with not only the lead protagonists but also any characters that may make repeat appearances during the series too.

The characters were all an eclectic mix and each one of them were realistic and strong. I was completely invested in them all. It also makes them more realistic, believable and made me feel even more for them than I normally would. I was completely invested in Celeste and was really hoping that she would find the happiness that she deserved. I really felt that I got to know her like a friend and absolutely loved the first proper meeting between herself and Travis who I also warmed too and became invested in. Some of the interactions between them had me laughing and others swooning but I won't say anymore than that as I don't want to risk spoiling anything for future readers. I will say that I would love to meet these fun and relatable characters again and I'm looking forward to reading more of Isabella's books in this series as well as any future books .

Overall a delicious and sweet rom com that will have you smiling and laughing throughout!

Genres covered in this book include Contemporary Women Fiction, Humour & Entertainment, Women's Romance Fiction, Fiction Mashups, Women's Contemporary Fiction, Literary Fiction, Romance Fiction, Mass Media, Drinks & Beverages, Travel In The United Kingdom, General Humour, Women's Friendship Fiction, Contemporary Fiction, Women & Relationships Humour, Romantic Comedy, Women Writers And Fiction, Holiday Fiction and Contemporary Romance amongst others.
