Book Description
Second Chances is a touching tale that takes us on a journey from India to Kent, UK, following the intertwined lives of the residents who live on the same road.
At the heart of the story is Molly—kind-hearted, resilient, and determined to make a fresh start after her husband Rory leaves her and their son Jamie.
But when Jamie disappears on the day they were supposed to move to Kent, Molly's new life takes an unexpected turn.
As Molly settles into her new community, she befriends her neighbours, Florence and Colonel Bryce Beckwith, who share their own stories of love, loss, and longing for second chances.
The three of them navigate their regrets and come to realise that it's never too late to make a change.
Second Chances is a poignant, multigenerational tale of connections and community, showcasing the unbreakable human spirit and the hope that can come from taking a leap of faith.

Jamie, Molly’s only son leaving his mother and the family home in the East end of London, on the day of their planned move to Kent.
‘Picking up his backpack, he looked around the almost empty bedroom. It did not give him any pleasure to know that his mother would have to manage the move to Kent on her own. He felt another pang of guilt.
Resisting thoughts of how she might react when she found him gone, he held on to the banister, treading as lightly as a puppy down the taupe-coloured carpeted stairs. In the dimly lit kitchen, he stuck a note onto a packing box near the table where his ma’s favourite crackled vase sat. A roughly made vase he had painted when he was young, covered with flowers in her favourite colours of pink and green. He had presented it to her one Mother’s Day.
He carefully turned the key in the lock of the back door and walked out of the family home. He would post a few lines to his best friend, Matt, once he found his soft place to fall.
From the east end of London, he took a bus to Victoria Station. As he stood on the station concourse, a tangle of commuters rushed around him. He felt removed from the busyness and people’s wish to reach their destination. He watched a queue form at the coffee and snack kiosks and breathed in the smell of freshly baked pastries. A whistle blew, train masters’ warnings to passengers that a train was about to depart.
He scanned the departure board and listings of destinations. He felt a pull to take a train to the coast and visualized lapping waves reaching the seashore. The soothing beach would help him heal, he told himself.
He walked over to a ticket office and stood in line behind a heavily built woman. Dressed from head to toe in black, she wore a statement velvet hat that sloped down on one side. Growling sounds came from a corner of the woman’s large shoulder bag. A Chihuahua popped up and snarled at him.
Taken aback, Jamie talked in soothing tones to the dog, but the canine remained aggressive.
The woman turned to face Jamie. “Chico doesn’t like strangers getting too close.”
She waved her hand in a dismissive fashion, signalling for Jamie to step away. She turned back and, in a disapproving tone, spoke to the uniformed man behind the counter. “I shall be making a full report about the service at this ticket booth. I am appalled that you deem it necessary to eat while serving your customers.”
The man grunted, took the woman’s cash, and passed her a one-way ticket. She huffed and puffed and pushed Jamie aside as she made her way to her train.
The booking clerk shook his head and lifted the half-eaten sausage roll from the greasy paper it had been wrapped in. He shoved the remains into his mouth. After a few moments of chewing and swallowing, he looked up and said, “Right, young man. Where you headed?”
Jamie hesitated, still a little unsure of his destination.
“Well, come along. I have customers waiting. Where do you wish to go?”
