Out Of Sight by Anna Legat. Review

Book Description

On the morning after his thirtieth wedding anniversary Stewart Harding is found dead. He was an

arrogant and thoroughly unpleasant man and there is no shortage of suspects, but all of them have

firm alibis. In any case, everything points towards it being an opportunistic killing linked to a robbery.

Newly promoted DI Mark Webber is assigned as the SIO with Gillian Marsh overseeing the

investigation. However, when her mother dies, she takes leave of absence and lets Webber continue

on his own.

Webber is making good progress until his colleague – and secret lover – DC Erin Macfadyen

disappears without trace. Webber’s world falls apart.

DCI Marsh cuts her bereavement leave short to take over the investigation into Stewart Harding’s

death and to track down her missing officer.

There is no doubt that she will find Harding’s killer, but will she find Erin and are the two cases

connected?

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Out Of Sight' by Anna Legat.

Read and reviewed for Anna Legat, Headspace Books and Rachel's Random Resources Tours.

Publication date 16th October 2023.

This is the second book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'Broken' which I would also highly recommend. It is also the sixth book in her 'DI Gillian Marsh' series but can be read as a standalone.

This novel consists of 37 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

'Out Of Sight' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Anna discusses/includes domestic violence.

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene and put you in the storyline. The cover and synopsis suit the book perfectly.

The storyline was captivating from the first page until the last and I was completely invested in it. It was absolutely rammed full of crime, murder, suspense, humour, friendship and everything you could ask for in a page turning crime thriller. I just could not put this book down and finished it in one sitting. The storyline is extremely fast paced and Anna's imagination and creativity absolutely shines through. Anna discusses domestic violence in this book which is an important topic to include in books as it highlights many of the aspects of abuse and how different people act when subjected to it. It also helps people to recognise the signs for themselves and others so congratulations Anna of bringing these to light and for doing so in a sensitive manner as possible. I love the fact that Anna intertwines humour throughout to lighten up the seriousness of the topics and crime which worked perfectly. She also creates a storyline that seems straightforward but is anything but!! I won't go into it in too much detail as I don't want to spoil it for future readers. The way it was written genuinely felt like I was with the characters while I was reading their story over a cup of tea thanks to Anna's fantastic descriptions everything came to life throughout the pages. There were several twists that I was not expecting especially when it came to the ending. A huge congratulations to Anna for surprising me, it is getting harder and harder with the amount of books I have read but you nailed it. A fantastic book in this series and I cannot wait to get stuck into the first book and work my way back to this one!!!

Although this is the sixth book in the series I had would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

Do not start this book until you have cleared your schedules as you will not be able to put it down!!

The characters were all realistic and strong and I was completely invested in each and every one of them. I wasn't sure what to think of DI Gillian Marsh with her very abrupt attitude and her emotionless personality. She definitely comes across as uncaring but she did slowly begin to grow on me. Each of the characters were believable and Anna's evocative writing skills ensure they all come to life as you read the pages. I'm definitely looking forward to getting Gillian more from the begining to see what she was like before many of her personal problems contained in this book. There were several characters involved in the team including Gillian's "partner" (when she wants her bed and more warning) Dr Michael Almond, DC Erin Macfadyen and DI Mark Webber (who are a couple), PC Gary Whittaker, PC Sharon De Witt and Jon Riley (forensics) to name a few. It is intriguing to see how the promotions affect each of the team members but I'm definitely looking forward to going back to meet them all at the start. There was great banter between some of the characters and many of their personalities were unique. My heart went out to Nora who is one of the characters involved in the case but I won't go into further details as I don't want to give anything away. Regardless of what I thought about who, each character worked perfectly to make this a page turning crime thriller and I'm looking forward to meeting them all again.

Congratulations Anna on another huge success!!! This is why your one of my favourite authors and although this is the first book I've read in this series I cannot wait to jump into all the previous books and look forward to the future ones!!! Here's to your next success 🥂!!!

Overall an absolutely unputdownable crime thriller that will keep you hooked and guessing until the end!!!

267 pages.
