BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'On The Tip Of Her Tongue' by Jerry Roth.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Jerry Roth and Aberration Press Books.
Publication date 8th June 2021.
This is the second book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'Bottom Feeders' which I would highly recommend.
I was originally drawn to this book by its gorgeous eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. I am also a huge fan of Jerry and if this is half as good as 'Bottom Feeders' it is sure to be a fantastic read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Aberration Press Books. I have yet to read a book published by Aberration Press Books that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of 2 parts and 43 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in Ohio, USA 🇺🇸.
This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Judy Angel and Johnny Macklemore. I enjoy books written in third person with several protagonists as it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters.
It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture
Well done Jerry you have done it again!!! What an absolute psychological rollercoaster ride!! Another epic page turner!!
This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that drags the reader into the storyline. The synopsis, title and cover suit the plot perfectly.
The storyline starts off slowly and I would liken it to the build up on a rollercoaster, when you hit the top its full thrust ahead through twists, turns, screams and shocks!! It is an intriguing and unique storyline which is extremely thought provoking. Jerry asks and really does make you think "Without your memories, who are you?”. Who indeed?? This is definitely one of the most unique story lines I have read in a very long time!! I really enjoyed and was grateful for the fact that Jerry uses the name "Angel" for Judy when we delve into Judy's memories or past and uses her actual name "Judy" when we are in the present. This saved alot of potential confusion as the storyline is quite complex anyway. I loved how Jerry mixes the past, present and memories to take us on a journey using detours until we have come full circle, everything is covered by the end. The storyline is filled with friendship, betrayal, love, magical realism, family, shocks, supernaturalism, horror, sacrifice, suspense, tension and much, much more!!! What more could anyone ask for!!! I have always been intrigued and fascinated by novels that include mental health facilities, experimentation and damaged minds and Jerry takes all of these and weaves them into a fascinating story. The fact that Jerry adds breadcrumbs throughout the story for the reader to find is a fun, unique and enjoyable touch that I really enjoyed. Well done Jerry!!
The characters are complex, diverse, strong and realistic. I really connected with Judy's character and really felt for her throughout. Judy's relationship with her father was very touching and is further revealed towards the end where you find out about sacrifices made. Her relationship with another character is certainly extremely complex and I'm very pleased on how things worked out there. I really liked Becka and Cal's characters and also connected with them both quite quickly. I was unsure of what to make of Maddie from when I "met" her but believe what she did at the end "saved" her character more in my eyes. I don't want to say anymore as I don't want to spoil the book for anyone reading or wanting to read it.
Congratulations Jerry on yet another success!!! I am looking forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve next. This would make one heck of a fantastic movie!!!
Overall a very complex supernatural filled unique psychological thrilling page turner which will leave you thinking about it long after you finish.
Genres covered in this novel include Psychological Thriller, Science Fiction, Suspense, Thriller and Psychological Fiction among others.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as anyone who loves paranormal, supernatural or mind intriguing novels
302 pages.
