My Grandmother's Inn by Kristin Harper

Book Description

My Grandmother's Inn: A totally gorgeous and gripping page-turner by Kristin Harper

Periwinkle-blue flowers spill over the picket fence, framing the simple wooden sign that reads Hydrangea House. But Molly’s eyes fill with tears. Her grandmother Beverley used to stand right there in the doorway, ready to welcome guests. Now Beverley is gone, will the inn close forever?

Grieving and newly single Molly Anderson begs the wealthy Frost family, owners of Hydrangea House, to allow her to run the inn for one last summer before they shut it down. She vows to give the final guests a summer to remember by the sea. It’s what Beverly—who worked uncomplainingly for the Frosts her whole life—would have wanted.

But when an elderly woman checks in claiming to know a secret about Beverly’s true connection to the Frost family, everything Molly knows about her beloved grandmother is called into question. The woman says that a message in a bottle hidden somewhere at Hydrangea House, will not only reveal the truth, but could stop the Frosts’ plan in its tracks.

Desperate to do whatever she can to save Hydrangea House, Molly combs the inn from attic to basement, helped by visiting oceanographer Matt. She could never get involved with a guest, but Matt’s kindness as he listens to her worries, and the way his deep brown eyes keep locking with hers are hard to ignore…

But as they fill their summer with searching, rumors and bad reviews about Molly start to spread. By delving into the mystery of the past, has she shattered any chance of the inn’s future? Can Matt be trusted, or is he more closely linked to the Frost family than she thought? And when she finally unlocks the secret about her grandmother, will it bring Molly peace—or tear her apart?

An absolutely gorgeous read about learning to trust, the meaning of home, and the importance of family. Fans of Debbie Macomber, Carolyn Brown and Mary Alice Monroe will be captivated.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'My Grandmother's Inn' by Kristin Harper.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Kristin Harper, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication Date 28th March 2023..

This is the third book I have read by this author. It is also the fifth book in the 'Dune Island' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Summer At Hope Haven' which is the first book in this series and 'Lily's Secret Inheritance' which is the fourth book in this series and I would definitely recommend them.

I was originally drawn to this book by its gorgeous eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that thus book is  'An absolutely gorgeous read about learning to trust, the meaning of home, and the importance of family. Fans of Debbie Macomber, Carolyn Brown and Mary Alice Monroe will be captivated.'' I am a huge fan of Debbie and Carolyn so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a fan of Kristin and if this is as good as 'Summer At Hope Haven' and 'Lily's Secret Inheritance' it is sure to be a great read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 21 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based on the fictional Hope Haven, Dune Island, Massachusetts, USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonist is Molly Anderson. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

This book is quite fast paced with absolutely stunning and vivid descriptions that really set the atmosphere. Speaking of the atmosphere I absolutely loved it and it was the perfect setting for this page turner. It is set in a beautiful Inn which includes a cottage that gets rented to families on low income. It is emotionally charged and filled with family, romance, lies, secrets, drama and of course the sea and beach!! This book really does show how one thing can affect so many people and change so many lives. It is also about moving forward, learning how to look to the future instead of the past, forgiveness and second chances. It is beautifully written and one of those books you could read on a beach or in front of a fire. It is beautifully written with such realistic descriptions it made me feel like I was right next to Molly the whole time feeling the sand on my toes and the wind in my hair. The ending was absolutely beautiful although I was gutted when I came to it.  It genuinely felt like I had gone on holiday to Dune Island and I was devastated to come to the end and realise I had to unpack my suitcase! This book would make an absolutely gorgeous movie! I'm looking forward to reading the previous and future books in this beautiful series. It is one of those books that once you pick it up you just wont be able to put it down so make sure you clear your schedules!!

Although this is the fifth book in the series I have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

The characters were well rounded, solid and realistic. The main character in this book is Molly. She is such a strong female character which I love seeing in novels. I loved watching Molly's character development throughout the book. I loved how she was absolutely determined to save Hydrangea House and Peace Place and even volunteered to run them unpaid for the season. She is the complete opposite to Savannah who couldn't care less about the people she would let down by closing the Inn immediately or the annual visitors who she was turning away. She just seemed to care about getting what she wanted and nobody else mattered. I really could not stand her!! It is hard to say too much without giving too much of the storyline away. I enjoyed reading the history of the Inn from Hazel who was such a sweet lady and I loved how she spoke to Savannah when Savannah spoke to her condescendingly. My thoughts on Matt changed throughout the book from starting by thinking he was a jerk like the rest of Savannahs friends to thinking he was handsome, sweet and such a gentleman. Regardless of whether you live them or can't stand them each of these characters worked perfectly together to make this book an absolutely beautiful read. I am looking forward to meeting them all again and hopefully soon!

Congratulations Kristin on an absolutely stunning page turner!!

Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the prologue and first chapter of Kristin's absolutely addictive and stunning 'Lily's Secret Inheritance' which is another gorgeous page turner and one I have read myself and would highly recommend!!

Overall a stunning page turner which takes you on holiday and floods you with emotions..

Author Bio

Ever since she was a young girl, there were few things Kristin liked more than creative writing and spending time on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, with her family. Eventually (after a succession of jobs that bored her to tears), she found a way to combine those two passions by becoming a women’s fiction author whose stories occur in oceanside settings. While Kristin doesn’t live on the Cape year-round, she escapes to the beach whenever she can.
