This is the authors debut book as Charlie Dean although they have written other books under the names Lily Mae Walters and Florence Keeling but I have not read any of those.
This novel consists of 37 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonist is Charlie. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them.
This book has fantastic descriptions that set you straight in the scenes. The cover, title and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly.

This book is very well written with vivid descriptions setting the picture perfectly in the readers mind. The title, description and cover works perfectly with the storyline. It is one of those books that are very easy to read and perfect for any reading situations whether you are laying on a beach or curled up in front of a fire. It is an absolutely ideal read for anyone who is looking for a fantastic read that will give you a blast from the past and have you hooked from beginning to end. I absolutely LOVED the nostalgia this book gives me from the clothes to the music and the friendship along with much more!! It actually took me straight back to my younger days being an 80's girl myself!! The amount of times it made me smile and say things like 'OMG that was so me'! and 'I So remember that/them' was brilliant!! I absolutely loved the trip down memory lane and this amazing book is anything to go by I cannot wait to get hooked into more of Charlie's books so I hope she is busy writing her next one!! The fact that she based the storylines on her personal life and experiences made it even better and more believable for me and you can also tell from her fantastic writing that it is written from her heart. I completely agreed with her on many of her beliefs, especially how since Covid the GP system is an absolute joke and they just dont seem to care for their patients as much as they used to. Many people I have spoken to have had their times wasted waited fro their doctors to call back just to be told to go to the hospital to wait hours and then be told by the hospital their GP could have resolved the issues! This is definitely one of those books that will turn a frown upside down and make life seem a lot brighter. It is packed with fun, compassion, romance, empathy, friendship, laughter, sympathy, memories and everything you could ask for in a fantastic feel good book. Charlie's evocative writing skills drew me deep into the book bringing the atmosphere and characters to life all around me. It is one of those books that I could not put down. I ended up walking around the house looking at my kindle reading away and absolutely devoured it in one sitting..
It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.
This may be the first book I have read by Charlie but I cannot wait to get hold of more books by this extremely talented author!!!
The characters were all an eclectic mix and each one of them were realistic and strong. I was completely invested in them all. I absolutely adored that Charlie based her characters on her own personal life making them jump out of the page at the reader!! It also makes them more realistic, believable and made me feel even more for them than I normally would. My heart went out to Charlie especially during her teenage years when it made me remember how hard them times could be emotionally. There is fantastic character development throughout the storyline and I loved watching each if the characters personalities grow along with their relationships changing and developing. Pick up this book and get lost in Charlie's life from her highs to her lows, teenage love to adulthood and so much more!!!

I'm a 70's baby, 80's child and a 90's teenager. My family and friends mean the world to me. I love most animals, especially horses and dogs, but not snakes, never snakes.
