'How To Keep A Husband For Ten Days' by Jessica Hatch

How to Keep a Husband for Ten Days: A totally hilarious and heart-warming romantic comedy by Jessica Hatch

Pretending to be married… How hard can it be?!

When Lina’s oldest friends unexpectedly announce they’re coming to stay, she has to think fast. No one knows she and her husband Brown are breaking up, and so she persuades him to act as if they aren’t… After all, how hard can it be to pretend to be married for another ten days?

Surely if they follow these rules, they’ll be fine?

1. Throw your backs out striking couple poses

2. Practice laughing super loudly at each other’s jokes

3. Hold each other’s hands with a grip of steel when walking

4. Share a bed…

But, despite her step-by-step guide, pretending to be married isn’t as easy as she thought. And by day five, Lina is starting to realise there’s a thin line between love and hate.

And while she can try to fool her friends, she can’t fool her heart. Was she too hasty calling time on her marriage? Is this becoming more than make believe? And does she even have enough time to find out if Brown feels the same?

This absolutely hilarious and totally addictive romcom is perfect for fans of Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis, Christina Lauren’s The Unhoneymooners, and Emily Henry.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'How To Keep A Husband For Ten Days' by Jessica Hatch.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Jessica Hatch, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 3rd February 2023.

This is the first book I have read by this author.

I was originally drawn to this book by its intriguing and eye catching cover and its hilarious sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'This absolutely hilarious and totally addictive romcom is perfect for fans of Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis, Christina Lauren’s The Unhoneymooners, and Emily Henry." I am a huge fan of Emily Henry so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 26 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in London, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, UK 🇬🇧. I always enjoy when books are set in the UK as I'm from Wales and have sometimes visited areas mentioned in the book. This makes it easier to picture where the scenes are set at times. I have actually visited London recently so am looking forward to seeing if I recognise any areas mentioned.

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonist is Lina Brown. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

This book is a lovely, charming and light romance. It is all about second chances when Lima and her soon to be ex husband need to keep up the pretence of being a happy couple in front of their friends to try to save the apartment building that they all met in. It is advertised as a rom-com and there are some funny moments but I would class it more as a romance drama. It is an easy read which had me smiling on several occasions with a sweet storyline. It is filled with friendship, regrets, romance, nostalgia and will keep you entertained. I must admit I did find the switch in time lines confusing at times but I worked them out pretty quickly and it didn't spoil the storyline for me. The situation that Lima found herself in was intriguing and I was looking forward to how they were going to work it all out and how it was going to end. There was a great mix of characters who all had their own individual personalities. I was confused at first with Freddie being called them and I was trying to work out who the second person was as I assumed that when 'them' is written there is more than one person but I quickly worked out that Freddie preferred to be classed as them rather than him. The characters are all larger than life and Freddie was one of my favourite characters as they seemed to jump out of the pages with their personality. The moments of nostalgia with all the characters was sweet and it took me back to some memories of when I was younger and some of the things I got up to with friends I am no longer close with. If you are looking for a nice light hearted romance this is the book for you.

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the first two chapters of Jessica's 'My Big Fake Wedding' which promises to be just as good as this book and I look forward to reading it!!! Overall a charming and sweet romance filled with friends, nostalgia, romance and more.

Genres covered in this novel include Rural Life Humour, Women's Humorous Fiction, General Humorous Fiction, Contemporary Womens Fiction, Modern Fiction, Romantic Comedy, Romance Fiction, Contemporary Fiction Humourous and American Literature amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis, Christina Lauren’s The Unhoneymooners, and Emily Henry.
