'His Secret Daughter' by Melissa Wiesner

Book Description:

Not Noah. Not my husband. But there he is, unconscious in the hospital bed. Our daughter sobs into my shoulder. We love him so much. What if he never wakes up? And who is the little girl beside him, gazing up at us with big, tear-filled brown eyes? Eyes that look just like my husband’s…

Our family of three is perfect. Just me, Noah and our teenage daughter Maya. The day the police knock at our door, telling us about the car accident, is the worst day of my life. My heart shatters, but what they say next almost makes it stop beating: Noah was in the car with another woman who died at the scene. Her two-year-old girl, Luna, miraculously survived.

With Noah fighting for his life, I’m desperate for the truth: and when I search his desk, I find checks made out to Luna’s mother. Did my loving, loyal husband have a secret family all along?

Despite my own terrible pain, at the hospital I can’t help but comfort this poor child as she cries for her mommy. With nowhere else for Luna to go, I find myself opening our home. Seeing Maya hold Luna’s hand and giggle as they chase butterflies in the garden, it’s almost like my daughter has a sister…

I have an impossible choice. Do I tell Maya the truth about her father? If Noah wakes up, will even more secrets come out about who he really is? And can I forgive him enough to give this sweet, innocent girl a home… or will my husband’s betrayal tear us all apart?

Fans of Jodi Picoult’s My Sister’s Keeper, Kate Hewitt and Diane Chamberlain will adore this absolutely unputdownable read about how the people we love most can hide the darkest secrets.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'His Secret Daughter' by Melissa Wiesner.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Melissa Wiesner, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 3rd January 2023.

This is the fourth book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'Her Family Secret', 'Our Stolen Child' and 'The Girl In The Picture' which I highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its stunning eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Fans of Jodi Picoult’s My Sister’s Keeper, Kate Hewitt and Diane Chamberlain will adore this absolutely unputdownable read about how the people we love most can hide the darkest secrets.' I am a huge fan of Jodi Picoult, Kate Hewitt and Diane Chamberlain so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Melissa Wiesner and if this is half as good as 'Her Family Secret' and 'The Girl In The Picture' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 30 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is set in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA 🇺🇸 .

This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Emma Havern. The benefits of third person perspective with are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

'His Secret Daughter' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Melissa discusses/includes drugs and child abuse.

Yet another absolutely gripping book Melissa well done!!! This book is beautifully written with such emotion it will have tears streaming down your eyes. The stunning cover and synopsis suit the plot perfectly.

The storyline is a rollercoaster of emotions including heartbreak, tension, secrets, lies, friendship, family, love and just so so much more. It is hard to explain in words the emotions this book brings out. It is so heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. I was absolutely captivated and absorbed throughout, a beautiful page turner. It is genuinely one of those books you just can't put down. It is also extremely thought provoking and most definitely unique! I have never come across a storyline like it in a book before!! I was just absolutely addicted to this gorgeous novel. It is an absolutely sensational family drama with twists and turns I just did not see coming so A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Melissa as it is getting harder and harder to shock me. My jaw just dropped so many times and I was just completely mind blown by everything that just kept coming out of the woodwork the more Emma investigated!! Melissa has such evocative way of writing that it really does bring out all the emotions in her readers. This book is heartwarming and heartbreaking, uplifting and just an absolutely stunning addictive page turner. I absolutely LOVED the ending and I had tears streaming down my face by the end which is very rare for me so well done (I think 🤔) Melissa for making me cry lol 😂). I would absolutely love to see this book created into a movie!!!

Clear your schedules and grab the tissues before even turning the first page of this stunner and get ready for an absolute rollercoaster of emotions!! One of the best books I have ever read!!

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

The characters were realistic and each had their own unique personalities. This must be the first for a book but my heart went out to each and every one of the characters for different reasons. It absolutely broke for Emma who was going through so much anyway and the pressure, stress, heartbreak and so much more just kept being added and added to her emotional turmoil throughout the book and yet she still kept trying to stay strong for her daughter Maya. Emma is such a strong woman and I was just expecting her to curl up and crawl into bed at any moment which, although she wanted to several times (and who could blame her?) she managed to keep on going, discovering more secrets, looking after her daughter while helping poor Luna. I could not stand her parents who were just horrible and uncaring people especially her father who just disgusted me with his attitude!! I am so pleased that she had Alicia who was a true friend and such an amazing support for not only Emma but also Luna and Maya. She is such a kind and caring person and someone who I would love to have as a friend myself!! Maya is only a child at 16 but has also got so much going on with exams, worrying about her Dad and having her life turned upside down that my heart completely broke for her. Emma was doing everything she could to help but nobody can take away your emotions and my heart broke for the both of them. Throw poor Luna into the mix at just 2/3 years old and not having a clue what is going on and having her life turned upside down too and you have 3 amazing women/girls who have gone through so much between them all. I won't go in to any details about Noah or another character as I don't want to spoil it for future readers but the ending and everything that came out had tears streaming down my eyes. Gary was another character that my heart broke for and I don't believe he deserved what happened to him or how he was treated when he was just trying to feed his family. Argh!! There's so much more I want to say about the characters but any more and I am worried I will give too much away so I will leave it there. However, I will say that this group of characters will stay with me for a long time and if you want to meet them click the buy link below. Well done Melissa on creating such realistic characters and bringing their personalities and emotions to life!!

OMG Melissa!!! When will I learn? Always have a box of tissues at the ready and clear my schedule when I pick up one of your books as they are guaranteed storyline that I will completely lose myself in and end up in tears!!

.This is EXACTLY why you are one of my favourite authors and bring out the same emotions as reading a Jodi Picoult and Nicholas Sparks book brings out in me. They have definitely got competition in you!!

Congratulations Melissa on yet another absolutely stunning, riveting success. This would make an absolutely gorgeous movie and I am looking forward to your next successful novel!!!

Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the first two chapters of Melissa's absolutely stunning 'Our Stolen Child' which is another emotional page turner and one I have read myself and would highly recommend!!

Overall a must read, gorgeous, addictive page turner that will take your breathe away and have you absolutely sucked in with tears streaming down your face!!

Genres covered in this novel include Romance Literary Fiction, Women's Literary Fiction, Romance, Family Drama and Literary Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Nicholas Sparks, Kerry Fisher, Diane Chamberlain, Jodi Picoult’s 'My Sister’s Keeper', Kate Hewitt, Catherine Ryan Hyde and absolutely anyone who loves an absolutely breathe taking, emotionally charged and addictive page turner!!!

284 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle, free on kindle unlimited (at time of review) and £7.99 in paperback via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.
