'Her Deadly Touch' by Lisa Regan

Book: Her Deadly Touch

Author: Lisa Regan

Pub Day: August 12th 2021

My Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

About the Book:

The woman is kneeling at a gravestone, her hair blowing in the breeze, a bunch of wilting yellow daffodils on the grass beside her. Her eyes are fixed on the ground and her mouth is parted in a silent prayer. But the wax dripping from her cold blue lips means it’s already too late to save her… On her first day back with the Denton PD after a major trauma, Detective Josie Quinn is on the hunt for a missing woman, Krystal Duncan, the mother of one of five children killed in a devastating school bus crash. Hours later, Josie finds Krystal’s body beside her daughter’s grave, her lips sealed together forever with wax. Forensics match the wax to one of the candles lit in memory of the sweet little souls who died, giving Josie her first lead to a support group made up of the parents who lost children in the crash. Painstakingly dissecting the lives of these grieving couples, it’s clear to Josie that each of them is hiding something about the day of the accident—but whose secret is worth killing for? The case takes an agonizing turn when the body of another young mother is found near the site of the bus crash. Someone connected to the accident is out for revenge. As the members of the support group are picked off one by one, every second counts for Josie to save the lives of these loving parents who have already suffered the loss of those they treasured most… An absolutely gripping and totally unputdownable crime thriller from an Amazon, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Be warned, this book will keep you up all night! Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Her Deadly Touch' by Lisa Regan.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Lisa Regan, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 12th August 2021.

This is the first book I have read by this author. It is the twelfth book in the 'Detective Josie Quinn' series. It can be read as a standalone.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine'.  I am a huge fan of Angela Marsons so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 46 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Pensylvannia, USA 🇺🇸

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonist is Detective Josie Quinn. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

Lisa where have you been all my life?? I can't believe I've never read any of your amazing books before!!!! Well I won't be making that mistake again!!!

When I decided to read this book I could have sworn that I had already read books by Lisa before now and was shocked that it turned out this would be the first. I'm even more shocked now that I've read it to discover I've never picked up her books before especially if any of them are half as good as this one!!!

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that captivates the readers attention and places them right in the centre of the action. The cover and synopsis suited the storyline perfectly.

The storyline was absolutely nerveracking and heart racing and kept me consistently on the edge of my seat, biting my nails and turning the pages until I finished it in one sitting. The plot is unique and I really related to Jose's 'What If'? Questions, regrets and worries as I am sure many readers will. How many times has something happened and you have gone back and thought the difference in your life if you'd done something different. What if I did it this way? What if I had said that? Lisa has taken an everyday question and made an absolutely fantastic story with it that is filled with drama, murder, tension, red herrings, suspense, tears, secrets and I could go on. This book has everything and more that you want in a crime thriller. It is unique and realistic as well as being fast paced. There was constantly something happening and it left me questioning myself throughout the book. I never did guess who was involved so a huge congratulations Lisa!!! It is getting harder and harder to surprise me but you had me hook, line and sinker!!! The book ended perfectly and I cannot wait to get my hands on all previous and future books of yours!!! Although this is the twelfth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

It is always worrying when starting a new series as you have no idea who the characters are. It is very important for me to bond with not only the lead protagonists but strangely I find it important that I like the pathologist too. I had absolutely nothing to worry about in this case. I absolutely love Josie's down to earth personality. Josie has suffered a horrific loss and instead of being the type or person to let it either overwhelm her or the type who completely gets on with life and forgets she is in the middle. I am looking forward to reading previous books and finding more out about Josie and Lisette's relationship and bond although I'm sure it will lead to tears. Not only is Josie a strong female lead but Gretchen is also a fantastic female model and I love the bond between the two women. They make an absolutely fantastic team and the dynamic between not only Josie and Gretchen is spot on but also with them and Noah, Mettner, Amber and Chief Chitwood. I am looking forward to meeting this team many more times!!

Congratulations Lisa Regan on an absolutely fantastic novel and welcome to my top 10 crime author list!!! Looking forward to the next episode in this amazing series.

Overall a heart racing, page turning, addictive and unputdownable fast paced crime thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
