BLOG YOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Her Betrayal' by Emma Tallon.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 15th February 2022.

This is the third book I have read by this author. It is also the third book in the 'Drew Family' series but can be read as a standalone. The first book I read and the first book in this series is called "Her Revenge" and the second book I read and in this series is called "Her Rival" which I would also recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching and colouful cover and its intriguing synopsis. The synopsis stated "If you love reading Martina Cole and Kimberley Chambers you will be totally gripped by this gritty, gangland crime thriller" . I am a huge fan of Martina's books so am interested to see if it will live up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Emma and if this is half as good as "Her Revenge" and "Her Rival" it will be an amazing read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 66 chapters. The chapters are short to medium to long in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in London, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.

This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Scarlet Drew, Lily Drew, Ruby Drew, Cillian Drew and DI John Richards. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

OMG EMMA!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME!!! WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY EXPLOSIVE BOOK AND BOMBSHELL CLIFFHANGER ENDING!!! I HOPE YOU'VE WRITTEN YOUR NEXT BOOK BECAUSE I CANNOT WAIT!!!

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions and the perfect atmosphere for the storyline. The synopsis and cover work perfectly with the book cover.

The book is gripping and addictive from the very first page until the last. I was absolutely hooked throughout with the suspense and tension filled plot. I enjoyed delving back into the underworld and getting to know more about the Drew family worked within the family, the underworld and all the other gangs. The storyline was intricately woven with so many sub plots that kept me completely engaged throughout. The way Emma has written it really helps your imagination picture everything going on. It is filled with laughter, love, crime, loss, shocks, twists and one hell of an explosive ending!!! What an absolute cliffhanger to end on with not just one shocker but 2 massive bombshells/cliffhangers!!! I was absolutely on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with a pounding heart throughout this absolutely gripping and addictive book!!!

I really enjoyed meeting the Drew family again as well as the other characters. I have also learned Emma's previous books were based on the Tyler family who we also met in this series so I am looking forward to going back to read that series as well as any further books in the Drew family serious. Scarlet is definitely a force to be reckoned with as is Lily and who doesn't love a strong kick @ss female in the crime world!! I was absolutely fascinated by all the businesses that she managed to keep afloat. I also enjoyed reading about what Connor and Cillian got up to and having twins myself it's quite interesting to see how these twins worked. I loved both of their huge and hilarious yet serious when needed personalities and they slightly remind me of the Weasley twins from Harry Potter with their cheeky sides. I also had a bit of a soft spot for Ray and really like him. I actually started to feel for Ruby in this book and loved how she was starting to try and help out with the family even if maybe for the wrong reasons. However, by the end maybe not so much pity. I have had several mixed feelings about Ruby since the start of this series, I don't think I've ever had as many mixed feelings about any other character EVER!!! I enjoyed getting to know John in this book and found him to be such a sweet, caring guy who is undeniably in love with Scarlet but I am also absolutely petrified for the guy!!! Every single character was strong and had their own unique personalities and each definitely left an impression on me.

I am looking forward to reading more of Emma's books and it would be intriguing to see them turned into movies. Emma, congratulations on yet another explosive hit and here's to your next success 🍻!!!

Overall a fast paced, explosive page turning, gripping and addictive adventure from the underworld.

Genres covered in this novel include

Thriller, Crime Thriller, Mystery, Psychological Fiction and Crime Thriller amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans Martina Cole and anyone who enjoys reading about crime from the dark side..
