BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Evil At Alardyce' House' by Heather Atkinson.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Heather Atkinson, Boldwood Books, Book And Tonic and Rachel's Random Resources Tours.

Publication date 30th June 2023

This is the second book I have read by this author. It is also the fourth book in 'The Alardyce' series. I have previously read 'Savage Sisters' which I would also highly recommend.

This novel consists of 25 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium to long in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

Another successful book by the very talented Heather Atkinson. The other book I have read by her was a gangland thriller so when I spotted this and noticed it was a historical thriller I was intrigued on how she would fare with the change of genres. I am pleased to say that she is just as fantastic writing historical thrillers as she is gangland thrillers which definitely takes talent so a huge congratulations Heather!! It isn't easy for an author to write several genres but you have definitely managed it!!! I'm always a bit dubious with books based historically as I worry about not being able to 'deal' with the language used but I absolutely love how Heather has written this book and I am looking forward to reading the rest of this books in this series and revisiting Alardyce' House!! The language used is perfectly suited to the era whilst being easy to read. The atmosphere and descriptions were perfect. The synopsis and cover also suit the storyline. The storyline had me hooked immediately and I loved the gothic and creepy atmosphere that Heather creates within Alardyce House. There was so much going on that it kept me entertained thoroughly throughout with mystery after mystery and clue after clue. It was filled with suspense, mystery, murder, clues, tension, suspense and so much more!! It is absolutely perfect to read either curled in front of the fire or lying on a beach which not many books can achieve. The atmosphere was perfectly suited to the mystery. Although this is the fourth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader. The characters are all solid and realistic with a large range of personalities!! Heather's evocative writing skills brings each of them to life making them jump out of the pages while you are swept away on this epic page turner!!!

Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the first chapter of Heather's 'The Missing Girls of Alardyce House' which is the first book in this series and promises to be just as good as this book and is one I'm definitely looking forward to reading myself!!

Overall an addictive, intriguing and thrilling historical thriller that will have you hooked from the first page to the last!!!

344 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle, free with kindle unlimited and £9.99 in paperback via Amazon at time of review which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!
