'Daisy And The Dazzling Dachshunds' by Janey Clarke

Book Description

The discovery of a murdered woman with a rescued dog and her puppies on Bodmin Moor, hurtles Daisy, a shy retired librarian and her oddball friends, into another dangerous, yet comical escapade.

Daisy is on a mission to find the murdered woman’s killer, linking events to the puppy farm, and is suddenly thrust into a world of explosions, shootings and kidnappings!

Furthermore, family secrets come to light and Daisy discovers an unexpected revelation that will change her life forever. This newfound knowledge is difficult for Daisy to cope with and somewhat hinders the situation that befalls herself and her friends. And if that isn’t enough, the return of her ex-husband poses even more problems.

Daisy enlists the help of Cleo her cat, and Flora her puppy, both rescue animals, in her search for the puppy farm. However, the question remains, even with all the help she has, can Daisy manage to outwit the villains and save herself and the puppies from harm?

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Daisy And The Dazzling Dachshunds' by Janey Clarke.

Read and reviewed for Zooloo's Book Tours, Janey Clarke and Blossom Spring Publishing.

Publication date 26th April 2022.

This is the first book I have read by this author. It is also the second book in the 'Daisy' series but can be read as a standalone.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. I also love the fact that Daisy is a retired librarian and the amount of animals involved being a huge animal lover myself, Daisy sounds like my type or person! I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Blossom Spring Publishing. I have yet to read a book published by Blossom Spring Publishing that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 41 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. I have actually visitited and holidayed in Cornwall on mnay occasions and am actually going on holiday there twice next year so am intrigued to see if it does mention places I have been too and it may even give ideas on places to visit when I go next year.

This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonist is Daisy. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them.

This book is very well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene for the reader. The cover and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly.

The storyline is absolutely rammed with animals, friendship, murder, mystery and so much more!! I love the fact that even though it is namely a cozy mystery there is so much humour along with suspense and tension. I think the fact that it is lighthearted at change is part of why it is such an easy read which jist absolutely flows. I really enjoyed discovering Cornwall again and it really has made me look forward to my visit again next year and I have already started a lost thanks to this amazing book. I loved it when I was on holiday IN Cornwall so needless to say I adore the atmosphere in this book.

The narrative written from Daisy's perspective really flows and it feels like she is chatting to me over a cup of tea. The witty and humerus conversations and attitudes made me laugh out loud on several occasions!! The storyline is multilayered and rather just concentrating on the one mystery of the puppies, Daisy is also looking into her own family background where some shocking discoveries are made, dealing with her ex husband, explosions and so much more!!! This book was unique and kept me turning the pages unable to stop!!! I adored meeting all the animals, being an animal lover myself this is one of the things that had attracted me to the book in the first place.

The 'Priory Five' remind me of the 'Famous Five' when they become octogenarians!!! Such an absolute unique group of mystery solvers each with their own unique personalities!!! The Priory Five consist of our protagonist Daisy, Sheila who may be in a wheelchair at times but that doesn't let her slow her down, Jim who was previously shot in the leg but that doesn't drag him down and he's a fantastic support to Daisy, Martin who is the quieter one in the group and Maggie. Other characters include the owl face Gerald, 'Ferret Face', Police officer Tenby, nosy Demelza and the adorable Flora, Cleo, Lottie and many more. I absolutely love the nicknames that Daisy comes up with which made me laugh.

Although this is the second book in the series I had would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader. However, I do always recommend reading book series' in order and I'm looking forward to going back and reading more of Daisy and her adventures along with looking forward to the next adventure in this addictive series!!!

Overall a animal filled cozy adventure that will keep you amused and entertained while turning the pages!!

Genres covered in this book include Mystery, Humour, Private Investigator, Murder Mystery, Crime Fiction, Cozy Animal Mystery, Women Sleuths, Christian Suspense Fiction, Religious Fiction, Cozy Mystery amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Enid Blyton and anyone looking for a cosy mystery you can just sink your teeth into.

220 pages.

This book is just £1.80 to purchase on kindle or free on kindle unlimited via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

Author Bio

Scottish born, I now live on the Jurassic Coast of Dorset with my husband, and Monty our enormous cavalier spaniel. As a lifelong sufferer from EDS, I cope with my restricted mobility by dictating all my novels. Changing primary schools, meant that I was unable to read until given special lessons. This gave me a deep love of reading and I devoured books. After extra training I specialised in teaching children with reading difficulties. Still an avid reader, I love cozy mysteries, where the murder doesn't scare me to death!
