Judy Blume and Betsy Byers, and Nicola Morgan.

‘What a positive book that I would encourage all kids to read' - Reader review

'This new series that is going to follow Becky is going to be an amazing read for the younger

generation' - Reader review

Child genius Becky Bexley helps to organise a lot of fun at university, some for charity. She turns out

to have a talent for stand-up comedy. Alcohol comes up for discussion one day as students talk about

embarrassing things they did while drunk and the harmful effects of alcohol on the body. Becky helps

a girl overcome post-traumatic stress disorder, and a little boy with an anxiety problem that's blighting

his life. Becky's advice is based on genuine therapy techniques and psychological research, and the

books in this series combine humour with handy information.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Comedy, Alcohol, Trauma And Games' by Diana Holborn.

Read and reviewed paperback for Diana Holbourn, Windy Seaside Publishing, Netgalley amd Literally PR.

Publication date: 11th September 2023.

This is the third book I have read by this author but won't be my last!! It is also the third book in the 'Becky Bexley the Child Genius' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read the first book in this series 'Trying To Make The World A Better Place' and the third book in this series 'Student Fun And A Mammoth Discussion' which I would also recommend.

This novel consists of 10 chapters. The chapters are medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This is a lovely and light read that covers a fantastic range of topics, many that are sensitive but that are very important to speak about too!! Although there are only 10 main chapters there are loads of mini chapters between with headings giving an insight into what each chapter is about so you can read the book it bite size chunks, chapters or even in one sitting.Diana has written it in a perfect way so the reader isn't overwhelmed with too much information at once and has broken it down into smaller sections so it can be read in small chunks. Although the book has serious topics Diana weaves them in between fun moments which is perfect as it stops it from being too "heavy" and serious a read while still conveying the importance of kindness and supporting others. I will admit that the way some of the students spoke and the subjects were definitely not ways I believe university students would speak in and about but it was still a fun book. In this book Becky tries her hand at stand up comedy and does a better job than the comedian, helps Zoe with her PTSD struggles, does some litter picking and becomes a volunteer teaching assistant at her previous school. Some of the topics I found intriguing, some disgusting, some fun, some boring and some definitely random!!! There are discussions and topics for everyone!! It is definitely unlike other books I have read and I'm looking forward to reading book 2 called 'Good And Bad Times At University' so keep your eyes peeled for my review of those books coming soon!! Some of my favorite parts were Becky's discussion with Zoe who is suffering with PTSD as I found it very moving, some of her brilliant jokes at the show which made me laugh out loud, the risks of alcohol which is an important subject especially for the age group this book is aimed at!!! It is a lovely book that discusses a range of topics from the good to the bad to the ugly but it is cleverly all weaved together in between humour and friendship so it never gets too dark for too long. If your looking for a light hearted read then it's definitely worth grabbing a copy today!!! A very cleverly constructed and well researched book that would have been amazing to have around while I was younger. I am definitely looking forward to reading more books in this fantastic series!!!

Amazon rates this book suitable for children 13-18 years old. I would agree with this rating.

Overall a light, fun and enjoyable addition in the Becky Bexley Child Genius series.

360 pages

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle and £9.99 in paperback via Amazon at time of review which I think is a bargain for this book.

Rated 4/5 (I enjoyed it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.
