Coffins & Confetti by Ruth Graham. Review.

Book Description

Following the success of her first book, A Thousand Goodbyes, writer Ruth Graham invites us to join

her on the next part of her journey as an Independent Civil Celebrant. She honestly believed she'd

seen it all - apparently not!

Once again, we're exposed to the best, worst (and funniest) examples of human behaviour in Ruth's

latest memoir,

Coffins & Confet, but this time the tears and laughter are set against the poignant backdrop of the

writer’s own search for true and lasting love.

Written in conversational style with trademark humour, Coffins & Confet takes the reader on a

journey encompassing the darkest corners of despair, peppered with some of the funniest true-life

stories you will ever hear.

A letter to life, a memo to mortality but above all, a testament to tenacity, Coffins & Confetti is a book

which oozes humanity and hope with the message that if you hang on in there long enough, things

will always turn around ...

Review for 'Coffins & Confetti' by Ruth Graham.

This is the first book I have read by this very talented author but definitely not my last!!

This novel consists of an introduction and 22 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!.

I will start by saying that this isn't my usual chosen genre but I'm an eclectic reader and happy to read most books. I must say that if you are the same as me and don't normally read non fiction then don't let that put you off and pick up your copy of this great book today.

This memoir takes us on a journey through the author's life of her job as a celebrant where she tells us some of the shocking events that she has had to go through as well as many emotional times as well as some hilarious tales!!! I had no idea how much work and education goes into being a celebrant and how many skills it requires, plus how much patience!!! Ruth had me laughing until I had tears streaming down my eyes, absolutely mind blown and shocked and saddened by the many journeys she went on with families in their life, loss and love. It is an emotionally packed book filled with romance, tragedy, loss, love, heartbreak, happiness, tears of joy, tears of sadness, laughter and absolutely every emotion that you can think of. I will be honest and admit that i was not quite sure what to expect when I picked up this book but whatever it was I got so much more!! This is not just a story of Ruth's life as a celebrant but of what she was going through in her personal life too. Ruth's fantastic and evocative writing skills really sucked me deep into her life where I could see everything come to life in front of my eyes and she left me with the emotions that she was going through. My heart went out to her on so many occasions. Ruth has dedicated her life to helping others celebrate happiness and get through loss supporting them in every way she can. Ruth is definitely someone I would want by my side in any celebration and by my families side at my end. Her beautiful and caring personality shone through her writing which drew me in from the start to the end. This is one of those books that once I picked up I just could not put down. Regardless of how many times I told myself just one more chater I then had to read yet another and before I knew it I had devoured the whole book in a few hours. Ruth is absolutely devoted to doing the best she can and bends over backwards doing everything she can and much more to ensure she does everything to the best of her abilities. Along with Ruth's memories of services and telling the reader about her personal life she also gives lots of fascinating, intriguing and useful information about weddings and funerals that I found very interesting and handy to know about as I'm sure many other readers will too. Ruth is also very sensitive of others needs and when she tells us the stories of the events she acted as a celebrant for. I absolutely loved reading this book and cannot wait to get stuck into her other memoir 'A Thousand Goodbyes' as well as her other hilarious looking books 'The Cr@p Family Christmas Bible', 'The Pit-Down And Insults Bible, and 'The Break Up Bible'. This book is a great read packed with adventures, experiences, emotions and Ruth's writing skills ensures the reader that she genuinely cares about everything she has written about and you can hear the shock, proudness and so many other emotions she has gone through to tell her stories in her writing. I had never heard of Ruth Graham before picking this book up but I now feel I know her enough to want to meet her and tell her how amazing and inspirational she is!! An absolutely brilliantly written and addictive memoir!!!

Clear your schedules and get ready to take a journey with Ruth through her stories of weddings, funerals and more!!! You wont regret it and you wont be able to put it down!!

Congratulations Ruth on a fantastic, funny, fascinating read that made me laugh, shocked and much more! You truly are an inspirational woman and I hope to read more books about your life and work hopefully soon! I would like to welcome you to my favourite authors list!!! I cannot wait to read your previous and future books and here's to your next success 🥂!!!!

Author Bio

With an eclectic background in music; acting; presenting; comedy; journalism; writing; counselling

and teaching (to name just a few careers), Ruth Graham could never have guessed all the skills she’d

acquired would be needed for her final role – that of funeral and wedding celebrant.

With no two days ever the same, Ruth travels all over the West Midlands to meet grieving families or

happy couples, in preparation for the happiest and saddest days of peoples’ lives.

It’s a huge role, with so many expectations attached – and a lot of pressure to get things right. But as

Ruth says, it’s also a huge privilege to be able to bring comfort in times of sadness, or to create

something really beautiful and unique for a couple lucky enough to have found their match.

That said, in the great improv show of life, everything doesn’t always run smoothly because it

involves humans at their best and worst. The result is endless amounts of material and two books to

her credit so far.

The first one ‘A Thousand Goodbyes’ (The Surprising Life Of A Funeral Celebrant) garnered fantastic

reviews: Hilarious Un-Putdownable /Moving/Touching/Must Read) from bloggers, industry

professionals and the general public.

Ruth is hoping the same for Coffins & Confetti but either way she intends to keep working as a

celebrant knowing she’s making a real difference to others’ lives.
