Charlotte's Snowman ☃️ by Lainey Dee. Review

Book Description

Children love building snowmen. When they add a nose, eyes, and mouth to their snowman, they

get a magical feeling that their snowman has his own personality.

And… sometimes snowmen do come alive!

Charlotte wakes up and sees that it’s snowing… it’s snowing and it’s snowing. She runs outside to

build a snowman. She fixes a carrot for the snowman’s nose, a stick for his mouth, and two stones for

his eyes.

But the snowman has many demands, so Charlotte has to part with her gloves, scarf and hat; so her

snowman wouldn’t feel cold. But the sun comes up all of a sudden, and Charlotte cannot find her

snowman anymore. She is sad. Then, she learns that her snowman hasn’t disappeared completely,

but is hiding in the ground, waiting to emerge next winter.

A great book for those children who miss their much loved snowman when winter is over

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Charlotte's Snowman' written by Lainey Dee and illustrated by Sarah-Leigh Willis

Read and reviewed for Lainey Dee, Sarah-Leigh Willis, KABooks and Rachel's Random Resources Tours.

Publication date: 22nd November 2020.

This is the first book we have read by this author but it definitely won't be out last!!!

This book is such a lovely, festive and beautiful book for baby, children and adults alike. One of the things that I really liked about this book and what stood out for me is the fact that it carries several important messages but in a way that is very child friendly. It teaches children that even though it is sad when the snow, Christmas and their snow friends melt that they will be back year after year and it is important to be patient. It very subtly brings the topic of loss into a beautiful storyline that children can relate to and through the snowman children learn to look forward and move on. It can also bring the topic of seasons and the weather into discussions with the children while reading the book to make what is typically an adult conversation into a fun one for the children. Charlotte is such a sweet, happy and friendly character and is a great role model for the children as is her snow friend which is also very important to have in children's books. It was quite emotional to read at the end in regards to having to say goodbye but, again, it ends with a positive message. The illustrations are absolutely delightful, eye catching and with loads of objects to point out, describe and discuss with your children. It really is a fun book to read and perfect with Christmas just around the corner. It would make a fantastic stocking filler or Christmas Eve story to read around the tree!!! It wasn't just myself that enjoyed reading it but my 10 year old son and also one of my 5 year old twin boys. It was written in a way that is easy for children and adults to read and we all took it in turns to read a page (my other twin boy is non-verbal, they both have autism).

Malaki and Hunter loved looking and naming all the different items in the background. We had lots of fun naming all the different things that the children could see in the photos and naming all the colours. It is a fantastic book and I would say it is suitable for any child from new-born up. This book is lovely and short and can be a quick read or be made into a fun long read whichever the reader wishes. The font is a nice style and size making it easy for adults and children to see and read too which is definitely a bonus as I have struggled with some fonts that authors have used in children's books in the past. It would be a great book for children to be read to by their teachers in school as well as friends and family members. Let your children's imaginations come alive with this beautiful festive book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Lainey to my children and hope that she is busy writing and Sarah-Leigh illustrating the next one already!

My 10 year old son Malaki had this to say about this book:

I really enjoyed reading this book. The pictures were really bright and colourful and I thought the story itself was quite sweet although a bit sad too. I really liked Charlotte but my favourite was definitely the snowman!!! ☃️ I really enjoyed reading it to my brothers who are 5 year old and loved showing them the pictures which they liked too.

Amazon rates this book suitable for children 3-7 years old. I would rate from baby to 10 years old.

Congratulations Lainey on writing a gorgeous book and Sarah-Leigh for the stunning illustrations. Here is to your next success 🥂

Overall a beautifully illustrated and sweet festive children's book with important messages.
