This is K. M Harding's debut novel.
I was originally drawn to this book by its gorgeous eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title.
This novel consists of 31 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in Stanton, Manchester, England 🏴, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.I have actually holidayed in Manchester so am intrigued to see if I recognise places based on anywhere I visited while there.
This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonists is Dani. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.
'Broken' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book K.M Harding discusses Violence, Grief, Loss, Abuse, Trauma, Rape and Suicide.
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO KERRY ON AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING ROMANCE. ♥
This book is absolutely gorgeous and I loved every single page of it from the first to the very last!! I am ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED to discover this is her first book!! I mean jeepers if this was her first and she managed to produce such a captivating read I cannot wait to see what she comes out with next!! I was sucked straight into the storyline from the first page to the very last and loved discovering the different areas . The setting is gorgeous and I loved visiting and discovering not only Manchester but Keswick and Blackpool to name just 2 places you are whisked away to in this page turner. I've also visited Keswick and Blackpool, holidaying in both, Blackpool in September so between what I have seen when there and KM Harding's vivid descriptions the storyline just jumped out of the pages at me. I found the storyline to be unique and I enjoyed watching the friendship and relationships between the characters develop and change throughout the book. It is filled with romance, friendships, suspense, tension, twists and everything you could want in a stunning romance. This wasn't all lovey dovey though and there are many dark and disturbing secrets and events that come into play along with an absolutely huge twist that I would never have expected so a HUGE well done on blowing my mind KM Harding!! I have read over 300 books this year and I can tell you that is not an easy feat!! This was a perfect book to end the year with an explosive bang!! Who needs fireworks when you can read this explosive page turner? KM Harding has done an amazing job on writing from Dani's perspective and it felt like I was walking with her while she was telling me her story. I enjoyed discovering what was going on in her mind as well as seeing what she was doing. I found the storyline itself to be fast paced and I absolutely flew through it in a day and still wanted more. I started it in the afternoon and I just could not put it down until I finished at 2am so I completely blame you Kerry for the bags under my eyes!!! It is absolutely gripping and will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions from happy to sad, worried to elated, angry to filled with a bubbly feeling. I absolutely adored the ending which was absolutely perfect and which was a perfect way to show just how far Dani had come from the start of the book. I was shocked when Dani's past was revealed and then shocked again when her memories came back!! I just absolutely loved this book and I really cannot wait to see what Kerry comes out with next, whatever it is I can guaranteed it will be a page turner and I cannot wait to read it!!
My first impressions of Dani were of a hard working, sweet woman who had been through hell time and time again. My heart absolutely went out to her for everything she had been through and how she was hardly living her life because of her past by isolating herself and barely socialising. When she starts to get some confidence and finally goes out then bad things just kept happening to her and knocking her back time and time again. I absolutely fell in love with Damien who was such an amazing guy and an absolute dream boat. The fact that he didn't once push Dani and then took her on all these gorgeous adventures and dates and the way he treated her like a princess made me absolutely green with envy!! The fact that Kerry made him so sexy did not help!! I adored Jess, Paul, Amy and Raif and thought they were such amazing friends and an absolutely fantastic support network for Dani. I loved seeing how their friendship grew and grew in front of my eyes and I would love to have a gang of friends even half as amazing as they are. They all had such unique, larger and life personalities who made me laugh so many times. These are definitely characters that will stay with me for a long time. I absolutely could not stand James from the start and the way he loved himself and then how he acted later in the book made me sick. However, I won't go into anymore detail as I don't want to spoil it for others. Adrian is another sick piece of scum and apart from saying I was very pleased with the ending I won't say any more about him either. It doesn't matter whether you love or hate the characters they all work perfectly together in this sexy page turning romance.
