Bridge To Eternity by Romola Farr. Review

Book Description

Audrey, recently widowed, is not saying why she left her comfortable home in the south of England to move into an old school boarding house on the edge of a moor. Tina, a young estate agent, is concerned for Audrey’s safety as she believes the folklore about a schoolboy who never went home. Property developers, annoyed at losing a site ripe for demolition, make plans to encourage Audrey to sell. BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Bridge To Eternity' by Romola Farr.

Read and reviewed for Romola Farr and Wildmoor Press.

Publication date 14th March 2019.

This is the second book I have read by this author. It is also the first book in 'Hawksmead' series. I have previously read 'Where The Water Flows' which is the third book in this series and I loved that one too.

What another absolutely stunning page turner from the extremely talented Romola!! Well done Romola on yet another absolutely beautiful and perfect read!! This is the ideal beach read where you could sit there and turn around and just imagine the town coming to life around you.

The book is extremely well written with beautiful descriptions that completely drew me in. The synopsis and the cover match the storyline perfectly!!

I first discovered this beautiful series when I actually read the third book in this series and completely fell in love with Hawksmead!! When I opened the pages of this book it felt like returning to a much loved and favourite holiday destination and I loved becoming completely absorbed in the book from the very first word until the last. The storyline itself completely swept me away. I absolutely adore Romola's unique storylines and getting to know the lives of so many different people, seeing their relationships and friendships change and see how they react to secrets, disasters, romance and everything else that goes on in this absolutely fantastic read!! I absolutely adored the dual timelines where we discover the history of Hawksmead's old school house which is perfectly weaved with the present storyline of Audrey moving to Hawksmead after purchasing the old school house. The past storyline is given in the form of Robert Oakes secret diary that he wrote when he moved into the boarding school. It is filled with love, disasters, loss, heartache, revelations, drama, romance and everything you could ask for in a stunning must read. There are also so many shocks, twists and turns that I would have never seen coming even after reading the third book in this series so a MASSIVE congratulations Romola for blowing my mind!!! I have read so many crime and thriller books that it is getting harder and harder to shock me but you managed it hook, line and sinker!!! It kept me turning the pages late at night. I really enjoyed having the insights into everyone life's and what they got up to in the stunning Hawksmead. Romola's evocative writing skills ensures the readers are absolutely sucked into the stunning storyline with the atmosphere and characters coming to life all around them.. I absolutely fell in love venturing into Hawksmead again and Romola portrays life in a small town absolutely perfectly I became so invested in this book that it actually felt like going on a holiday and I absolutely dreaded coming to the end where I had to unpack my suitcase and get back to reality. It was an absolutely compelling and addictive heart lifting read that kept me turning the pages until late at night. I loved discovering the pasts and histories of the characters and the town and I was absolutely swept away in the story line. The town came to life around me and I cannot wait to return in the next book in this stunning series (Breaking through the shadows). The ending was absolutely perfect and I cannot wait to get stuck in again! This book would make a stunning movie!

Do not turn a single page of this book until you have cleared your schedules and when you do get ready to go on a stunning holiday you will not want to leave!!.

I became completely invested in the characters when I read ''Where The Water Flows' and absolutely love, LOVE, LOVED meeting Audrey and Malcolm again and seeing how everything began and how Audrey came to the stunning Hawksmead. I also loved meeting Eleanor who runs the 'Olde Tea Shoppe', Ted and Heather who run 'The Falcon', Magdalena Jablonski and several of the other characters again. They were all absolutely fantastic with their own individual personalities and quirks. The ones I had already met had already become like friends and the new characters all started feeling like new friends so quickly having got to meet and know so many of them so well. I felt like I was leaving amazing people and friends again and feel quite sad about that but am happy in the knowledge that this book is part of a series and I have one more of these stunning books to read (and hopefully Romola is already writing more!!). I loved watching how so many characters and personalities from Hawksmead develop and go from strength to strength from the first page to the last. I loved watching relationships change and develop and seeing how close knit many of them are. I enjoyed the fact that the younger generation got along so well with the older generation and many of them seemed more like family than friends I was also completely invested with the storyline which was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I just cannot wait to meet all the characters again and see what they get up to in the next book!!

I also want to add that I love the fantastic edition of the first act of the play 'The Widow's that is mentioned in the book that Romola includes at the end of the book!!!

Congratulations Romola on yet another absolutely gorgeous success!!! I'm definitely looking forward to my next holiday to Hawksmead which is called 'Breaking Through The Shadows' and is the second book in this stunning series!!! This is exactly why you are one of my favourite authors and here is to your next (guaranteed) success 🥂 !!!

Overall this is a perfect, stunning, page turning beach or fireplace read with a great gang of characters that will sweep you away to the gorgeous town of Hawksmead from the very first page to the end! A perfect first book in a stunning series!!!
