Blood Sisters by Rebecca Frost. Review

Book Description

For almost a decade now, Brent Wright has been in prison for the killing of seven women - unless the surviving twin sister of one of his victims is right and Brent didn't kill anyone at all.

If the theory is true, a presumed survivor of his is more dangerous than anyone could have imagined. No one will be entirely satisfied or safe until they find out for certain.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Blood Sisters' by Rebecca Frost.

Read and reviewed for Rebecca Frost, Aesthetic Press Publishing and Zooloo's Book Tours.

Publication date 22nd August 2023.

This is the first book I have read by this author.

This novel consists of 43 chapters set over 3 parts. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

'Blood Sisters' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Rebecca discusses historical molestation of a child.

This storyline is very complex and intriguing with loads of secrets and multiple storylines weaved into one main storyline. However, I did find it to be a slow burner and it took longer to read than I thought it would when I started it. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it and I absolutely LOVED the fact that our main protagonist is an author herself and the fact that she is an author is a secret that Vanessa tries to keep between herself and her husband. Any books that include authors and books as a main part of the storyline are a huge bonus for me and I thought this made up for the slow storyline for me. I do want to say that I have read hundreds of crime books so it is getting harder and harder to keep me hooked on a book through the day so just because I found it to be a slow burner that's not to say everyone will feel the same. It is ram packed with crime, mystery, murder, secrets, family, love, friendship and loads more!!! There were several twists that I was not expecting so congratulations to Rebecca on them as it it getting harder to shock me but you manage it!! Rebecca's talented storytelling ensures the characters and atmosphere come to life before your eyes.

The characters were all an eclectic mix and each one of them were realistic and strong. I was completely invested and compelled in each of them and what was going on in their lives. They were all very complex characters with each of the characters having different relationships towards each other. Vanessa is our main protagonist whose mother and step father died in a fire when she was younger and whose only sibling Brent is in prison for murder. One of the women Brent is accused of killing is Sunni whose twin sister is Skye. Vanessa's husband is Josh who has a very large family including in-laws who all feel differently towards Vanessa with her brother being in prison. Immediately we discover that several of the characters have secrets but as the reader delves deeper into the storyline more and more secrets come out and many of the characters aren't quite what they seem. I had no idea who could be believed and if any of them could be trusted. Rachel has done a fantastic job of creating strong, multi dimensional and complex characters and regardless of whether you love or hate them they all worked perfectly together to create this complex family crime drama.

Overall a compelling and intriguing family crime drama.

351 pages.

This book is just £7.72 to purchase in paperback, at time of review, via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 4/5 (I enjoyed it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.
